Framed by the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountains, Colorado Springs and its surrounding area is a place of incredible beauty. The site of numerous military installations and the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs’ economy revolves around the defense industry. Hikes through the impressive rock formations of the Garden of the Gods at the base of the Rocky Mountains and cog train rides up Pikes Peak, Colorado’s largest mountain, are two of the area’s most popular scenic trips. Outdoor sports are abundant in the region, from winter skiing in the mountains to whitewater rafting in the late spring and summer, and are a great way to take in some of Colorado’s famous scenery.
